Tinnitus entered my life unexpectedly in January 2021.

At the time, I was 20 years old and recovering from COVID-19. One night, after listening to music through earphones before sleep, I noticed a ringing sound that did not disappear. I had heard temporary ringing before, so at first I assumed it would fade by the next morning. It did not.

In the early days, that change was difficult to process. The sound was not always the same, which made it even harder to ignore. At times it felt like multiple noises layered together, and the uncertainty around it created a lot of anxiety. One of the hardest parts was the thought of losing silence, especially at night, when quiet had always felt restful.

What made the biggest difference over time was support, perspective, and patience. I began to understand that while tinnitus can change your daily experience, it does not have to define your future. Learning more about it, seeing how others were coping, and recognising that progress is possible all helped me move forward. Tinnitus UK’s resources and real stories were part of that journey, particularly in helping the experience feel less isolating.

That experience also shaped the reason Sonovo exists.

I wanted to create something positive from a difficult personal challenge. Sonovo was built around the idea of offering practical, non-medical support for people who live with tinnitus, especially during the moments when it can feel hardest to manage. The aim has always been to create products that feel straightforward, realistic, and supportive in everyday life.

"There is a lot of reassurance in knowing that other people genuinely understand what you are going through." - Jack Bridge

Today, I notice my tinnitus far less than I once did. That does not mean the journey was easy, but it does mean improvement is possible. For anyone going through the early stages of tinnitus, that is something worth holding onto.
